Alfred Health
Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.
Alfred Health is seeking applications for an Anaesthesia Registrar to commence in February 2026. This is a 12 month position, based at Alfred Health. It is an ‘independent’ position, outside of the Victorian Anaesthetic Training Rotational Scheme. It would suit trainees who are currently registered with ANZCA or will have completed Basic Training by the start of 2026.
The Alfred is a large public teaching hospital in Melbourne, part of Alfred Health, along with Sandringham Hospital and Caulfield Medical Centre (aged care and rehab). The Alfred is a tertiary/quaternary referral centre where all adult surgical specialties are performed except obstetrics/gynaecology, which occurs at Sandringham where 1600 babies are delivered/year alongside an orthopaedic and general surgery service. The Alfred provides several state services including Major Trauma, Burns and Adult Cardiothoracic Transplantation. The anaesthetic department delivers over 26,000 anaesthetics/year across 18 operating theatres, endoscopy suites, procedure rooms and further off the floor locations in radiology, cardiology and ECT suites.
Alfred Health is accredited for ANZCA training and is part of the Eastern rotation of the Victorian Anaesthetic Training Scheme. Our department is committed to providing excellent educational programs and is proud of a strong record of exam success. In addition to protected weekly teaching time, dedicated programs run throughout the year to support registrars preparing for both part 1 and 2 exams. All trainees are supported in working towards completion of applicable ANZCA training requirements during their time in the department.
The department has an active research team, participating in several large, often international multi-centre trials at any point in time. There are also many quality assurance/improvement audits and projects in which trainees can become involved.
The key responsibility of this role is to provide anaesthetic care to Alfred Health patients under the supervision of consultant anaesthetists. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching and educational programs where appropriate.
Enquiries should be directed to Dr Matt Richardson, Dr Julia Kuchinsky, Dr Janette Moss, Dr Ron Glick & Dr Dan Creely, Supervisors of Training, at [email protected]
Applications close: 21st May 2025
