The Department
Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne.
All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to develop the Partnership across the Health Services to ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services.

Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Human Molecular Pathology), each headed by a Unit Head. APS has the core laboratory at The Alfred as well as a small local laboratory at Sandringham Hospital.
Position Summary
An exciting opportunity for the position of Pathology Collection Supervisor for Alfred Pathology has become available. This position is key to providing an integrated, timely and customer-focused specimen collection service for Alfred Pathology Service.The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient Pathology collection services and to ensure the efficient and effective running of that service. The position is responsible for managing a teams across multiple hospital locations, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and policies and accreditation requirements. You will work closely with the Director of Laboratory Operations, and senior staff within the laboratory and across the organisation to ensure procedures and processes are up to date, timely and add to the quality of care of our patients.
Experience and Qualifications Required
Essential
- Certificate IV in Pathology Collection.
- Secondary education to Year 12.
- At least 7 years’ experience in Specimen Collection including working in a hospital environment.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- High level of initiative and motivation.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Skills
- Ability to engage and motivate a team across multiple locations.
- Ability to relate well to patients and other health professionals.
- Mature, friendly and cooperative manner.
- Well-developed organisation and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience in quality management tasks such as document control, corrective actions, audits (internal and external) is desirable.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable, especially in a changing environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
