The Department – Alfred Cancer Program
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies and the recently introduced Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre for cancer patients.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Psychologist to join our dynamic team at The Alfred Hospital’s Cancer service.
The P3 Psychologist is a senior clinical role that delivers expert psychological care, psychoeducation and support to patients and families/carers of Alfred cancer patients at all stages of the cancer journey including after diagnosis, during active treatment and post treatment. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across service streams, including inpatient care, outpatient support, and our newly established Integrative Oncology Unit. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and overseeing programs within the Integrative Oncology Unit, contributing significantly to the development of evidence-based holistic and patient-centred approaches to care.
This exciting role will also be instrumental in providing expert leadership to implement the integrative oncology model of supportive care in Alfred Cancer, in which ‘living well’ is the key focus. The Senior Psychologist will be involved in program design and service development, as well as implementation and evaluation of services in the new Integrative Oncology Unit. With Alfred Cancer being an established world leader in cancer care, there is also amazing research and professional development opportunities.
Additionally, this position involves key roles within the broader Psychology department providing supervision and mentorship to psychologists and fostering professional growth within the Alfred Cancer team.
Ideal candidates will possess a solid background in oncology psychology, with demonstrated expertise in interventions such as mindfulness and cognitive-behavioural therapy. This role is perfect for those looking to leverage their skills in a multifaceted environment while shaping innovative treatment strategies and guiding the next generation of psychological practitioners in oncology.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Master or doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology
- Registration under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009
- 5 years’ experience working as a Psychologist
- Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Health Psychologist under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009
- Approved PBA Supervisor
- Experience in providing psychological services to individuals with serious and chronic health conditions, preferably cancer/oncology services
- Skills and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based interventions such as mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy and other therapeutic and integrative approaches to supportive care
