The Department

The School of Translational Medicine (STM) is the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (FMNHS) leading school for biomedical and clinical research and education, offering undergraduate and postgraduate study programs. STM is primarily located at the Alfred Hospital Precinct, with sites at Peninsula Health, and Cabrini Hospital STM, along with the School of Public Health and Preventative Medicine (SPHPM) form the Sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health.

The MSBase Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organisation based within the School of Translational Medicine at the Alfred Hospital Precinct. The Foundation owns and operates the MSBase Registry - a unique international collaborative registry designed for clinicians working in the field of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neuroimmunological diseases (NIDs), such as myasthenia gravis (MG) to collect, track, share and evaluate patient outcomes data. The Foundation supports Registry members by providing freely available data-entry tools and scientific support.

The MGBase Registry, launched in Australia in 2021, is the first global observational registry dedicated to patients diagnosed with myasthenia gravis (MG). Since its inception, the registry has grown exponentially with expanding global reach. MGBase is owned, operated, and supported by the MSBase Foundation. A global Board of Directors and a Scientific Leadership Group (SLG) govern and provide strategic direction to the operations and scientific areas of the Foundation respectively.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an internationally recognised research initiative that is advancing the understanding and treatment of myasthenia gravis and other neuroimmunological diseases. The MGBase Study Coordinator is responsible for coordinating MGBase studies, commercial projects and governance activities that support the growth and success of the MGBase Registry and, where required, other neuroimmunological disease research initiatives. Working closely with the Senior Research Manager, investigators, sponsors, statisticians and other stakeholders, the role supports study implementation, site recruitment, project delivery and stakeholder engagement. The role also provides secretariat and governance support to the SLG and its committees, facilitates communication activities, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality study outcomes and scientific outputs.

Key Capabilities

  • Coordinate international research studies and registry initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with investigators, sponsors and research partners globally.
  • Manage study and project milestones, contracts and deliverables and stakeholder reporting
  • Support governance activities and scientific leadership committees
  • Coordinate the development, review and submission of research outputs, including abstracts, presentations and publications

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in a health, science, data analytics, information technology or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 3-5 years) in study coordination, research administration, project management or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience interpreting and applying governance requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and adapt to new software applications.
  • Willingness to learn, show initiative and exercise judgement
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
