About us

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

HOPE - the Suicide Prevention team provide 3 months’ intensive outreach psycho-social support and brief interventions to individuals discharged from hospital post a suicide attempt or who have presented with serious suicidal ideation.

The HOPE Suicide Prevention team is comprised of dedicated and compassionate mental health clinicians and lived experience workers. We celebrate diversity within our workforce and are a socially active team with a genuine interest in each other’s wellbeing. We set high standards and our team is committed to delivering timely and effective care to individuals in need, ensuring their well-being and promoting recovery. We also value higher learning and have a supportive lived experience management team who are dedicated to supporting the professional growth of our lived experience workers.

The Role

The Carer Peer Worker works in conjunction with our clinical team to provide support to family members or other carers in the network of the consumer. Carers/family members and friends often provide the main safety net and support system for a consumer. Evidence shows that when carers/family and friends are involved with services, outcomes for consumers improve.

The aim of Carer Peer Support is to:

  • minimise the impact of complex mental health issues on carers and significant others of consumers within the service;
  • and support the engagement of carers/families and significant others with the service in order to enhance the process of recovery for consumers experiencing serious suicidal ideation.

About You

As our Carer Peer Worker, you will draw from your own lived experience in a purposeful manner to offer support, either face to face or over the telephone, to families, carers and supporters of our consumers.
