THE DEPARTMENT 

 

ALFRED HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE

Alfred Health’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.

The acute physiotherapy service is organised into five functional streams, namely: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham.  The first four streams are located at The Alfred site, with the fifth and latter stream based at the Sandringham site. The physiotherapy service provides acute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, burns, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, infectious diseases, haematology / oncology, general medicine, haemophilia and emergency.

Caulfield Hospital Physiotherapy Department provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, aged care and residential care services. The physiotherapy department has more than 50 staff with another 15 physiotherapists working in other ambulatory and community services on site.    

The department provides subacute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: ABI, neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, pain, aged care, transitional care and aged psychiatry.  

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence.  It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy, through clinical research.

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students.

There is a strong commitment to professional development and research with staff able to access an extensive continuing education program on site and the support of Associate Prof of Physiotherapy for research activities.

 

SANDRINGHAM PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE

The Physiotherapy department delivers services to inpatients of the orthopaedic, general medical and general surgical wards, the Emergency Department and Short Stay Observation Unit and to patients of the Monash maternity service at Sandringham.

An outpatient service is also available for patients referred from the hospital outpatient clinics, such as Orthopaedic and Pelvic Health outpatients or referred from the wards.

 

THE ROLE 

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Continence & Pelvic Health) will be responsible for the ongoing development and provision of high-quality physiotherapy to the referred outpatients and inpatients of the Monash maternity service at Sandringham in consultation with the Physiotherapy site lead and the manager of the Monash maternity at Sandringham Allied Health team.

 

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Continence & Pelvic Health) may be responsible for the education of physiotherapy students. The role will provide supervision and professional development of Grade 2, Grade 1 and AHA staff working within the Monash maternity service at Sandringham service.

 

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Continence & Pelvic Health) is also responsible for and expected to be engaged in research, service development and / or quality activities within their specialised area of interest, or more broadly for the physiotherapy service.

 

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Continence & Pelvic Health) has an important role in contributing to the development of individuals, the clinical team and the physiotherapy service through good leadership, teamwork and communication.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Physiotherapist registered to practice in the state of Victoria
  • Post-graduate qualification in Continence & Pelvic Health or similar, or working towards
  • At least 7 years postgraduate experience with clinical experience in the management of patients in the Continence & Pelvic Health setting
