The Department
The Malignant Haematology, Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Services (MHTCTS) at The Alfred collects, processes and cryopreserves cells for transplants as part of the care for patients with haematological diseases including leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and related disorders. We continue to expand our cellular therapy capabilities as both a standard-of-care and clinical trial site for CAR-T therapies.
The service also collects cells from unrelated donors on behalf of Stem Cell Donors Australia for bone marrow transplants in patients across Australia and internationally
The Service offers routine molecular chimerism testing for post-allogeneic stem cell transplantation
The Role
We are seeking a hospital scientist to work in the Cellular Therapy Unit (CTU) processing laboratory. The CTU scientist participates in all operational activities of the laboratory, including but not limited to, processing and testing of cellular products; export of CAR-T source material for pharmaceutical manufacture, receipt of manufactured CAR-T for storage; maintaining the cryostorage facility and processing laboratory; assisting with sample preparation, analysis and reporting of recipient/donor chimerism analysis on allogeneic HPC transplant patients; preparing samples for clinical trials, and contributing to maintaining the unit’s quality management system. The successful applicant will work in a rapidly evolving service within a quality and project management framework.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the evolving field of cellular therapies as a member of the dynamic MHTCTS team at Alfred Cancer.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience in haematopoietic cellular therapy processing for transplantation is highly desirable
- Experience in MNC(A) processing and export for CAR-T cell therapy trials and commercial manufacturer is highly desirable.
- Background in Medical Laboratory Haematology or Transfusion Science is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience / knowledge of ISO15189 / NPAAC standards, and ideally JACIE -FACT standards with application to cellular therapy.
- Demonstrated experience writing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) within a Quality Management System framework.
- Excellent reporting skills using Microsoft Office.
