On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Cancer’s mission is working together to provide comprehensive patient centered, quality care through investment, research and innovation.

The Role

The Deputy Director of Nursing & Operations – Alfred Cancer is a key leadership role, responsible for the operational and nursing management of cancer services across Alfred Health.

Working closely with the Director of Operations and Program Director, this role ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services. The Deputy Director will oversee patient access strategies, operational leadership, workforce planning and clinical governance initiatives, ensuring services are responsive to patient demand and organisational priorities.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Registration with AHPRA as a nurse with tertiary healthcare qualifications (masters/postgraduate qualification in health/business management)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in large, complex healthcare programs
  • Strong clinical governance capability and a record of service improvement
  • Experience in operational and strategic planning, financial management, and workforce leadership
  • Proven ability to manage complex organisational change
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse stakeholder groups
