About us

Ward 4 West B (4WB) is a 28 bed mixed trauma, orthopaedic and general specialty ward located at The Alfred Hospital. A wide range of medical services are provided on site to care for the acutely unwell patient cohort that 4WB sees. The multidisciplinary team on 4WB works collaboratively to deliver safe holistic care by developing evidence-based plans and progressing patient recovery and discharge back into the community. 

About the role

The role of the AIN is to provide support to the nursing team in the delivery of safe and quality patient-centred care. The AIN must work under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse at all times, within their level of education and assessed competencies and under clearly defined role parameters. The main objectives of this role are:

  • To participate in delegated person-centred care delivery relating to patient activities of daily living, ensuring that the personal needs and comfort of patients is maintained
  • To assist in providing a safe patient environment, including additional direction patient supervision and assistance when required
  • To enhance patient recovery by assisting with patient bed positioning, transfers, ambulation and other care activities as outlined in the AIN-specific duty list (see position description)
  • Within the scope of the AIN role, providing general support to nursing staff on the ward and escalating any identified issues and concerns, to ensure effective and efficient care delivery

About you

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Acute) or willingness to undertake additional units if required
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an multidisciplinary team
  • A willingness to contribute to quality patient care
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively with other staff, patients and families
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete tasks and activities as delegated by the supervising registered nurse within the required timeframe
  • Awareness of scope of practice and seek support from nursing staff wherever required
