  • Part-time, Fixed term - 30.4 hours per fortnight until July 2026

The Department

Alfred Health’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.  

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence.  It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy, through clinical research. 

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students. 

There is a strong commitment to professional development and research with staff able to access an extensive continuing education program on site and the support of Associate Prof of Physiotherapy for research activities.  

 

The Role

The primary role of the Physiotherapy Student Clinical Educator is to provide support and advice to La Trobe University (LTU) undergraduate physiotherapy students, and their clinical supervisors, in relation to their clinical placements.

This position is funded by The La Trobe University School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport (SAHHSS) but is an Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department staff member/employee.

This position strengthens the relationships and operational processes between the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department and LTU Physiotherapy School, and provides enhanced learning opportunities for students – which in turn enhances patient experiences and outcomes. This role would also contribute to the communication between Alfred Health physiotherapy clinical academic coordinators and the La Trobe placement operations team.

Site location, and days of work, will be determined with the successful applicant.

 

Skills & Key Capabilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people at all levels of the organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, delivering and implementing educational/professional development activities
  • Demonstrated experience in providing supervision, reflective practice and other staff support services
  • Demonstrated senior clinical experience (within relevant discipline), working in health settings
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Promote a spirit of inquiry regarding existing practice and the development and testing of new approaches to care
  • Experience in contributing to education initiatives within a tertiary teaching hospital
