The Department
Alfred Health Carer Services (Carer Services) support the people who care.
Carer Services is funded by State and Commonwealth Governments to deliver programs including phone support, in person support services, peer support, information and social activities to carers (including young carers) of people who are aged, living with dementia, have a disability or chronic illness, and/or mental illness. We provide services to support carers and care relationships in a client-centred, timely and responsive manner. Carer Services is part of Alfred Health’s Home, Acute and Community program.
The Role
The Community Development Worker (CDW) is part of a multidisciplinary team made up of Community Development Workers, a Carer Volunteer and Engagement Adminstration. This position of the CDW, within the Carer Engagement team, contributes to the development and delivery of a range of group based programs and group engagement activities both online and in person, including information sessions, wellbeing, social support and peer support sessions. The CDW engages and collaborates with carer support groups, key partners and stakeholders across the community, health and hospital settings to enhance social inclusion, participation, and advocacy for carers in the community. The CDW develops links with vulnerable and diverse groups to support and strengthen accessibility of services for carers.
Qualifications and Experience Required

- Tertiary qualifications in Health, Behavioural Science, Social Sciences or Welfare
- Experience in community engagement and event planning and delivery
- Sound project management skills to prioritise and co-ordinate activities
- Energy, enthusiasm and commitment to create and promote high quality support services to clients
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Experience in assessment, care planning and service coordination would be highly regarded
- Successful applicants must undergo a police check and have a current Working with Children Check
