The Department
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. The Alfred Health Clinical Haematology service offers a multidisciplinary setting for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of the entire range of haematological diseases.
The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice in Haematology. The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of the Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Service, who practices autonomously but in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage haematology (predominantly transplant) patients using nursing knowledge and skills. The NP is engaged in clinical education, mentorship and professional activities to assist the development of extensions to practice include prescription of medications and at least one of the following; ordering diagnostic investigations, direct referral to other health care professionals, the ability to admit and discharge patients and/or provision of absence from work certificates.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Extensive advanced knowledge of Haematology/Bone Marrow Transplantation
- Knowledge of research methods and processes, the ability to generate own research, as well as the ability to analyse and interpret existing data
- High level interpersonal and communication skills across a broad range of health professionals
- Alibility to work both autonomously and collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and innovative
- Capacity for critical reflection
- Evidence of competent utilisation of extensions to advanced nursing practice according to approved Clinical Practice Guidelines in Haematology
Academic
- Registration as a Registered Nurse with endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Completed a Masters of Nurse Practitioner (or a Masters granted equivalence of qualification by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency plus an approved Therapeutic Medication Management module)
