The Department
Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department provides an integrated service at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals. This position is based at The Alfred Hospital. The Dietetics and Nutrition Department is comprised of approx. 48 EFT and 70 people. It is organised into eight clinical streams and provides a 7-day service. Using evidence-based, patient-centred care, it provides clinical expertise to Alfred Health’s patients during their healthcare journey, including the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and the optimisation of nutritional wellbeing and recovery through tailored specialised nutrition therapy.
Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department has a long and valued relationship with The Alfred, with the first dietitian being employed in 1930. It has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. The Department has strong relationships with Monash and Latrobe University Nutrition Departments and is integral to the clinical teaching and training of student dietitians. The department has a long tradition of research excellence and a philosophy of collective leadership with Dietitians supported to lead themselves and others to achieve common goals.
Position Summary
The Grade 3 Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Dietitian is responsible for supporting the care of patients under Respiratory Services at Alfred Health, including cystic fibrosis, adult and paediatric lung transplant and general respiratory. Clinical expertise in the nutritional management of respiratory conditions across the continuum of care, strong leadership skills and a proven track record of coordination and implementation of quality initiatives in clinical nutrition are key aspects of this role.
This position works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to advance patient centred care and nutrition service development. The successful candidate will be well supported by a high performing team with a great culture. The Grade 3 Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Dietitian is part of the Dietetics and Nutrition Senior Team, and will be provided with clinical supervision, opportunities to grow leadership skills and engage in relevant research and quality work.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Dietitians’ Australia (DA) and participation in the APD program.
- 7 years of clinical experience. Specialist Respiratory and/or Cystic Fibrosis nutrition experience is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in empowering patients in the management of chronic disease such as Type 1 diabetes (desirable).
- Higher qualification in (or proceeding towards) Health Professional Education, Management, Public Health or Research (highly desirable).
- Current driver's license.
- Current Working with Children Check.
