The Department
Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne. This partnership is aligned with the Victorian Government’s Pathology system reform. The Pathology programs are working in partnership to ensure we meet the future demand and continue to provide high quality pathology services for the patients and community across the health services.
In the Partnership, pathology services are provided from two main laboratories (The Alfred in Prahran and Monash Medical Centre in Clayton), and six branch laboratories (Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Sandringham Hospital, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospital). In addition, there are 20 collection centres and rooms spread across Southeast Melbourne and South Gippsland, with the furthest one located in Yarram.
The Position Description
The Pathology Discipline Training Officer will be an Alfred Health appointment on behalf of the Alfred/Monash Shared Pathology Project. This position will report to the Learning and Development Stream of the Shared LIS Project team within the Alfred Digital Health Learning and Development Team. The Pathology Discipline Training Officer will work in close collaboration with the Alfred/Monash Shared Pathology Service project team. The Training Officer role will cover all areas of Pathology; as such, a general understanding across all of the disciplines is preferred
- Haematology, Immunology and Blood Bank
- Biochemistry and Point of Care Testing
- Pre-Analytical services (including Send aways, Clinical Trials and Transport)
- Microbiology
- Anatomical Pathology
- Genetics
This is a priority project for Alfred Health and Monash Health, which relies on the delivery of other digital transformation projects beyond the LIS to be successful.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Broad and deep knowledge of pathology processes and workflows
- Ability to elicit, understand and translate pathology laboratory workflow requirements within a large and complex service industry organisation
- Ability to apply expert knowledge in resolving complex problems
- Ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions under pressure
- Attention to detail in the management of artefacts and documentation
- Demonstrable computer-based skills using Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Teams
- Knowledge of project management tools like MS Project, MS Teams or Smartsheet
