Department

Respiratory Medicine at The Alfred provides specialist consultative services throughout the breadth of respiratory medicine and allergic diseases and includes four constituent clinical Services. The clinical operational structure comprises of: Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology Service, Cystic Fibrosis Service, General Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Service, Lung Transplantation Service and Physiology Service. A number of joint cross-portfolio Services underpin the clinical operations of Respiratory Medicine. The academic and teaching activities of Respiratory Medicine are under the auspices of the Professor/Director of Research Allergy Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, within the Central Clinical School.

Position Summary

The Manager – Respiratory Clinical Trials is a professional and clinical leader in Nursing Services and is pivotal in meeting broader organisational imperatives. The Manager – Respiratory Clinical Trials operationalises the core values of Nursing at Alfred Health by ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff. The Manager – Respiratory Clinical Trials is accountable for developing staff to deliver excellence in clinical practice and research and is responsible for managing risk and implementing systems and processes to improve patient outcomes.

They will facilitate effective patient access to clinical services and clinical trials, managing both financial and human resources to meet these needs.  They will also be responsible for the high level operational and management and strategic planning of the unit. This includes overseeing the sustainable financial management through the assistance of the respiratory financial business manager. In addition, work with HR workforce and quality assurance implementation. Key roles include overseeing the daily operations and service delivery; engaging key internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with trials protocols across the continuum of care; attend trial feasibility and site selection visits; as well as ensuring there is a capacity for trial staff to conduct new trials and support the activity across all services involved.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
  • Extensive clinical nursing experience in relevant health service.
  • Postgraduate Qualifications in Respiratory Medicine
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Respiratory trials.
  • Demonstrates leadership and experience in managing a team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills incorporating excellent communication, and negotiation skills
  • Ability and experience in facilitating clinical research activities
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
