ALLIED HEALTH

Alfred Health’s Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines who provide patient centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health.  The Allied Health team includes clinicians from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Nutrition and Psychology (including Neuropsychology) and are supported by Allied Health Assistants. The Allied Health team works closely with the Nursing and Medical teams to provide a comprehensive and timely service to both in patients and out patients.

Allied Health disciplines provide care that optimises physical, psychosocial, communication and cognitive functioning. The Allied Health Professional Practice Framework underpins the work of Allied Health in contributing to Alfred Health’s purpose.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Speech Pathology Department & Service is coordinated across Alfred Health including The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital. At The Alfred a Speech Pathology service is provided to inpatients on all units and outpatients as referred through medical clinics.

POSITION SUMMARY

  • To provide a high quality speech pathology service to all in- and out-patients in the Acute and SubAcute clinical setting at  Alfred Health.
  • To provide high quality speech pathology services related to the assessment and management of patients with communication and/or swallowing disorders.
  • To contribute to the management of the Speech Pathology Department through participation in professional development and ongoing quality activities.
  • To provide supervision, education and training of staff and students as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A recognised degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Association of Australia.
  • Experience within an acute or subacute setting
