The Department

Health Information Services (HIS) provides invaluable operational support that contributes to the efficient functioning of Alfred Health services. The Health Information Services team plays a fundamental role in the delivery of health information to the Alfred Health's community.

Our teams pride themselves on the ability to support our clinical and clerical teams to provide the best patient care.  

Health Information Services supports the delivery of quality health information across the three campuses at Alfred Health.

Health Information Services is responsible for many services, some of which include:

  • Management of medical records
  • Management and governance of patient medical record numbers
  • Patient administration system (iPM)
  • Scanning and importing of all internal and external clinical documentation
  • Statutory reporting of all inpatient episodes (VAED) 
  • Dictation and transcription services
  • Enquiries including the main reception at the Alfred Hospital, Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre and Caulfield Hospital
  • Switchboard services at The Alfred and Caulfield Hospitals
  • Release of information to external health services
  • Management and coordination of subpoena and warrant compliance
  • Alfred Health Archives

The Role

An opportunity is available for an experienced Health Information Manager to lead the Caulfield and Sandringham HIS departments.

Qualifications and Experience Required

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent), a sound understanding of acute and sub-acute casemix funding, ICD-10 coding, demonstrated staff management and HIS operational management exposure.
