Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. Alfred Health Pharmacy is well recognised for high quality and innovative patient- focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output. The service operates over 4 sites within Alfred Health, and continually advocates for postgraduate learning and research interests, with supportive partnerships and expert mentors available to foster staff development.

About the Team
Our pharmacists are recognised as essential members of all clinical teams, actively engaging in a unit and team-based care model involving ward rounds and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. There are vast opportunities to engage in Advanced Scopes of Practice. This includes undertaking credentialing programs and leading clinical activities such as Partnered Pharmacist Medicine Charting, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy, and Analgesia de-escalation, to name a few. The department has also pioneered a various stewardship initiatives (anticoagulation, analgesic, psychotropic) which have been adopted nationally.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced hospital leader to join the Alfred Pharmacy Executive Leadership team. As the Quality Use of Medicines Director for pharmacy, you will be responsible for leading Alfred Health’s strategic and operational efforts in medication safety, formulary management, medicines information, and stewardship programs (Analgesic, Antimicrobial, and Anticoagulant), in partnership with the respective Lead Pharmacists in the directorate.
This role ensures the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of medicines across the organisation, aligning with national standards and accreditation requirements. In this role, you will oversee the operations of both the Medication Safety and Drugs and Therapeutics Committees, in collaboration with the Formulary Manager and Medication Safety Lead. You will collaborate with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders to develop and implement policies, protocols, and strategies that promote optimal medication use. A key focus of the role is ensuring Alfred Health’s preparedness for accreditation under Standard 4 of the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Program (SNAAP).
The Quality Use of Medicines Director will also be responsible for the operational services of the Pharmacy Department which include the dispensaries, aseptic service and the pharmacy clinical trials service with the support of the Deputy Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Qualifications & Experience required
- Registered pharmacist in Australia
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, public health, healthcare management or equivalent
- Extensive hospital pharmacy experience in a senior leadership position, with a demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy services essential
- Significant experience in leadership positions associated with clinical governance relating to medication use and safety desirable
- Significant experience in the monitoring and evaluation of strategies to improve medication use and safety desirable
- Experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of stewardship programs desirable
- Extensive clinical practice at an advanced level and/or extensive experience in a variety of different clinical environments desirable
- Research experience including undertaking, presenting and publishing research findings desirable
- Proven track record in managing clinical staff as well as maintaining good relationships with clinicians highly regarded
- Experience of horizon scanning and development of innovative processes for local implementation desirable
