On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department
The Spiritual Care Department sits within the Allied Health directorate. Spiritual Care is offered at The Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham hospital. The Spiritual Care department provides support to patients, families and carers inclusive of all spiritual, religious and existential beliefs. Alfred Health Spiritual Care Services contribute to a holistic model of care by offering patients, their family and carers a compassionate, open- hearted listening presence. Patients do not need to be affiliated with a faith community to access Spiritual Care.
Position Summary
Caulfield Hospital is looking for an experienced Spiritual Care Practitioner to work 2 days a week as a sole practitioner. Your day-to-day team will be the Caulfield Allied Health and medical team. To bring you a sense of belonging to the Spiritual Care team, there will be daily on-line handovers and monthly in-person team meetings.
Caulfield Hospital specialises in community services, rehabilitation and aged care and plays a statewide role in rehabilitation services, which includes the Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, neurological rehabilitation, spinal rehabilitation, and care for amputee patients.
As a sole practitioner, you will work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams across all wards and certain out-patient settings. You will be attending relevant Allied Health and patient meetings.
Thorough knowledge of spiritual assessment and a broad range of interventions will be integral to your ability to establish connections with patients, families, carers and staff effectively. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills will support your ability to work independently and contribute to a supportive team environment. Regular team meetings as well as clinical supervision will contribute to your commitment to high-quality and professional spiritual care practices.

Skills and Qualifications Required
2 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education, preferably an Advanced Certificate of CPE demonstrated in an acute clinical healthcare setting
Demonstrated work experience in counselling, aged care and palliative healthcare settings
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Counselling, Social Sciences or equivalent
Thorough organisational, prioritisation, and decision-making skills
Eligible for certified membership of Spiritual Care Australia
