About Our Team 

The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria. 

Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. 

APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services.  We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. 

Position Summary

The Mortuary Technician supervise and manage the daily operations of the Mortuary Services of The Alfred. The Mortuary technician is responsible for assisting pathologists and registrars at post mortem examinations, the receipt and release of deceased from the Mortuary, ensuring compliance with identification, documentation and registration processes and arranging viewings of deceased.

About You 

Qualifications Required: 

  • Successful completion of Year 11 (preferably with passes in chemistry and biology) is preferred.
  • A recognised Certificate in Mortuary/Autopsy practices is preferred. 

Experience and Skills Required: 

  • A previous work history in a hospital or funeral service mortuary is desirable.
  • Experience should be directly related to the position to be filled and provide particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • The individual must be able to perform key responsibilities and specific duties satisfactorily.
