About the Pathology Network

Commencing in late 2026, Bayside Health will lead a pathology network delivering diagnostic pathology services across Bayside Health: Alfred Care Group, Western Health and Monash Health, as well as contracted services to hospitals in South Gippsland.  The network spans laboratories and collection centres from Yarram to Point Cook, supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic services across Victoria.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced pathology leader to join the Network as Director Laboratory Operations – Bayside: Alfred Care Group.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Shared Pathology Service, this senior leadership role is responsible for the operational, financial and workforce management of the pathology laboratories and collection centres located at The Alfred and Sandringham Hospitals, and collection centres located at Caulfield Hospital.

The successful candidate will lead service delivery, business planning, financial performance, quality and accreditation outcomes, while driving innovation, continuous improvement and organisational change across a complex and high-performing pathology network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across pathology services within the Alfred Care Group.
  • Drive achievement of operational, financial, quality and workforce objectives.
  • Lead business planning, service improvement and organisational change initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards including ISO15189 and NPAAC requirements.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to meet budgetary and performance targets.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Lead, develop and support a multidisciplinary team including Principal Scientists, Senior Scientists and Quality Management staff.

About You

You will bring:

  • A pathology scientific background with at least 10 years' experience and relevant postgraduate qualifications.
  • Demonstrated success in a senior leadership role within a complex healthcare or pathology environment.
  • Strong experience in operational, financial and workforce management.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and change management skills.
  • A proven ability to drive service improvement, innovation and organisational performance
  • Sound judgement in managing complex clinical, operational and ethical issues.
