    About us

    The Alfred Psychology Department includes Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. Psychology Services are professionally part of the Allied Health Service. Within the acute hospital, clinical psychologists are based in a number of services including the Cystic Fibrosis (CF), HIV, Oncology, Heart Transplant, Paediatric Lung Transplant, Haemophilia, Multiple Sclerosis Trauma and Burns services. The Psychology Department is progressive, supportive of staff, and focussed on providing high quality evidence-based assessment and treatment services. Psychology staff are provided with great opportunities for knowledge and skill development through supervision and a well-developed professional development program

    This role will work across two services - the Functional Gut team and the Medical Obesity service. 

    • The Functional Gut Clinic is a specialised unit that manages patients with irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation and problems with intractable gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, nausea or chronic abdominal pain among many other conditions.   It is one of the only truly multidisciplinary clinics in Australia that has specialised allied health and nursing co-located with gastroenterologists.   This aim is to improve the quality of life of patients with Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders through using evidence-based treatments via a multidisciplinary team approach. 
    • The Obesity Multidisciplinary Management Clinic aims to help people who have health problems related to excess weight to improve their health by weight management. The clinic is a multidisciplinary service made up of specially trained doctors, a nurse coordinator, pharmacist, dietitian, psychologist and exercise physiologist. 

    About the role

    In this role, you will work closely with other members of the Functional Gut and Obesity Multidisciplinary Management teams to provide psychological assessment and treatment to patients. You will be required to work on Thursday morning, other days are flexible. You will be a senior member of the Alfred Psychology Department and will be involved in department activities and duties including the supervision of other psychology staff and students, professional development activities and research.

    About you

    • Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology.
    • Registration under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009.
    • Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Health Psychologist under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009.
