About the Team

Our Adult Inpatient Addictions and Mental Health Unit sits within the Hospital and Emergency Services and serves patients ages 18 to 65 who have symptoms of serious psychiatric illness or disorder requiring a safe and therapeutic environment during evaluation and treatment. We have 54 beds, divided between two units, Ground Floor and First Floor located at The Alfred. There are two units within each floor - the High Dependency Unit (HDU) where people may stay when they are acutely unwell and the Low Dependency Unit (LDU). 

Each ward has a full range of nursing, allied health, lived experience and medical staff. The multi-disciplinary specialist clinicians offer a range of treatments and interventions for the treatment of acute, severe mental health issues. We aim for treatment and intervention to be personal, safe, connected and effective. Our treating team will work together to provide the best practice treatment for mental and physical health, to assist recovery.

About the Role

In this role, you will be working as part of our Acute multidisciplinary team. The focus of the role will be supporting the needs of consumers admitted in both our high dependency unit (HDU) and low dependency unit (LDU). You will provide group and sensory based interventions to consumers on ground floor and support consumers and the team with discharge planning needs. You will also assist with coordination of the group program on the ground floor unit and support the consumers and team to introduce sensory based interventions to consumers in the unit. 

Skills & Experience

·       Bachelor of Applied Science (O.T.) or equivalent from a recognised school of Occupational Therapy.

·       Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board via AHPRA

·       Demonstrated skills in principles and practice of Occupational Therapy for people with serious mental illness and other complex needs. Undertake assessment, development and implementation of individual treatment and service plans in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
