Department

Patient Experience and Consumer Engagement (PECE) was formed in late 2013, to align the existing portfolios of:

  • Aboriginal Health
  • Consumer and Community Participation
  • Diversity, including cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD), lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and
  • queer (LGBTIQ), disability and all other minority groups with potential unmet needs
  • Patient experience measurement and improvement
  • Patient Feedback and Liaison
  • Volunteer Program (The Alfred and Caulfield Hospital)

PECE strategically supports Bayside Health Alfred Care Group to implement, monitor and evaluate the Patients Come First (PCF) Strategy. The PCF Strategy is our ‘road map’ for agreed priorities of care and service to support the best possible experience of care for all patients, irrespective of their individual preferences, values and expressed needs.

Position Summary

The Consumer Engagement Equity and Inclusion officer supports the implementation and evaluation of the PCF Strategy as led by the Director PECE and assists to realise the agreed objectives of the PCF Plan to deliver on providing high quality, equitable patient-centred care.

In partnership with the Innovation and Improvement Coordinator, Team Leader (IICTL), the role is responsible for the system that supports consumer and community participation across Alfred Care Group so that it is systematic, inclusive and integrates an intersectional approach. Key responsibilities are detailed below.

Success in this role will be achieved by assisting with coordination of strategies to support the eight domains of patient centre care as outlined in the 2021-2026 PCF strategy.

  • Coordinate, maintain and evaluate Alfred Care Group governance and improvement systems to support partnering with consumers 
  • Develop, review monitor and evaluate organisational policies and guidelines that support consumer participation and engagement
  • Support to ongoing compliance with relevant accreditation standards and reporting requirements
  • Executive Officer support of consumer led committees and other advisory and working groups as directed

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A Bachelor or Postgraduate degree in a relevant field is preferred and/or extensive experience in consumer/community participation/ engagement and/or education and training.
  • Experience and qualifications within the healthcare sector
  • IAP2 Engagement Certificate (available through the Engagement Institute Australia) or equivalent formal training in community and consumer engagement practice
