The Department

Emergency Psychiatry Service (EPS) - the Consultation Liaison service to the E&TC providing Mental Health and/or AOD assessment and interventions.   This assessment includes immediate assessment and risk management plans for persons presenting with Behaviours of Concern
The West Wing within the E&TC, incorporating the Brief Intervention and Short Stay Unit (BISSU) bed card. The West Wing is designed to provide a more therapeutic environment and a greater ability to manage risk for clients admitted to the E&TC
Crisis Assessment and Treatment Services (CATT) within the community incorporating early discharge management, assessment and management of newly referred clients as well as after hour treatment and crisis support to clients of community mental health services inclusive of Adult, Aged and Child and Youth teams within Alfred Health.
Triage - the Alfred Psychiatry 24-hour telephone triage referral, advice and support service
PACER - the 7 day a week afternoon/evening outreach service working in collaboration with Victoria Police providing acute assessment and advice to Victoria Police as an alternate to transfer of clients to the E&TC under section 351 of the MHA. 
Hope - the Suicide Prevention team who provide 3 months’ intensive outreach psycho-social support and brief interventions to individuals discharged from hospital post a suicide attempt or who have presented with serious suicidal ideation.
The Consultation Liaison (CL) team who provide consultation and guidance regarding the management of patients in the medical and surgical units with mental health problems and/or behavioural issues 
Neuropsychology Service who provide a full range of Neuropsychology services to patients of the acute hospital including comprehensive neuropsychological assessment including the assessment of capacity, input into the formulation of diagnosis and treatment, and review of treatment outcome.
The CL Addictions service who provide consultancy services to the whole hospital including the ED and the psychiatric in-patient units, including expert assessment, primary and secondary consultation, treatment planning, advice on withdrawal management and contributes to the discharge planning of relevant patients
The state-wide gambling minds program aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of existing services in Victoria in order to provide optimal outcomes for clients presenting with co-occurring gambling harms and mental illness, and 
The Access Manager (Psychiatry) ensures access to specialist psychiatric in-patient beds is maintained; coordinates and prioritises all requests for in-patient care from within the service and external requests for the repatriation of patients from and to other AMHS and takes responsible for 7-day post discharge follow-up of all patients discharged external to AMAH community teams.

The Role

 The Team Leader will be responsible for the coordination of care of mental health presentations in the Emergency &Trauma Centre (E&TC). This includes ensuring the cohort of patients admitted to the West Wing receive safe, quality care and achieve the goals for admission when admitted under a BISSU bed card.

They will provide clinical leadership to the nursing staff working in E&TC and in EPS and will provide expert advice to guide decision making regarding disposition within the department. The Team Leader will ensure prompt attendance at Behaviour of Concern (BOC) call-outs, provide expert advice regarding immediate care needs for patients arriving at the BOC Assessment room or presenting to Streaming. 

The RPN5 will serve as a role model for professional practice with demonstrated capacity to translate policy into practice and exhibit effective communication of expected standards.  The capacity to undertake and contribute to service development and quality projects is essential.  

Qualification & Experience Required

Essential

  • Registration with the AHPRA as a registered nurse with tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing – postgraduate diploma equivalent as a minimum.
  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience including having worked within a mental health team within an  Emergency Department or with an Emergency Psychiatry team

Desirable

  • Other relevant tertiary qualification or working towards, in relevant areas such as drug and alcohol, psychosocial, or therapeutic interventions.
