The Department
Haematology at the Alfred has the largest number of Haematologists of a service in Australia. The Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Service, and the Haemostasis / Thrombosis Unit and the Haemophilia Centre, support haematology patients from the greater Melbourne area, and adult haemophilia patients from all of Victoria. These are just some of the factors attracting a very large portfolio of treatment trials to our unit. The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) oversees a large number of trials from Phase 1, first-in-humans to Phase 3 randomised, controlled trials. These trials are testing treatments ranging from newly developed drugs straight from the biotech companies to established drugs being used in new regimens. We have gene therapy studies, Car Tcell and BiTE studies in our exciting list of studies. Our research ranges from large pharmaceutical companies, bio-tech companies, and universities, to inhouse investigator-initiated.
