The research unit works closely with the Department of Infectious Diseases; clinical services dedicated to general infectious diseases, COVID-19, HIV, and an immunocompromised host service both as inpatient and outpatient services. The clinical research unit one of the largest research units at Alfred Health has a significant role in the development and instigation of research projects in immunocompromised patients, including COVID-19 research within Alfred Health. The unit works on projects that include acute care intervention, chronic illness management, prevention and diagnostic activities. The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) conducts a number of clinical trials/studies, which are sponsored by a variety of organisations such as Pharmaceutical companies, Government Bodies and Universities. The Unit also conducts investigator-initiated studies with other researcher from within the Infectious Diseases Unit as well as with external researchers and collaborative institutions such as the Department of Health and Human Services, Burnet Institute and Doherty Institute. The CRU manages on average 50 studies annually; the studies involve recruitment at Alfred sites collaborative engagement with units; oncology, respiratory, gastroenterology, Emergency and ICU departments. Community engagement including key community organisations.

Position Summary

In your role as a Level 1 Research Nurse you will work on a range/s of research project/s and be responsible for assisting a Research Co-ordinator, co-ordinate and manage research activities. The focus of the position will be on various research projects within Infectious Diseases such as investigating COVID-19 diagnostics, HIV, Hepatitis C and Influenza. You will be working along-side a group of experienced clinical researchers who share knowledge and assist each other in their project recruitment and management. Under the direction from a CRU Coordinator you will assist investigators with aspects of clinical research project implementation, coordination and conducting participant’s study visits, within the hospital, outpatient or the community. The research nurse will also work on other research projects under the direction of the Clinical Research Manager as part of the research nurse team.

Experience Required

  • Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Experience in Clinical Research, General Medicine, Respiratory and/or Infectious Diseases is desired
  • Minimum of 2 years inpatient acute RN experience
