THE DEPARTMENT
The Central Clinical School is co-located with The Alfred Hospital and is an integral part of the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP). CCS is a centre for clinical and biomedical research and education and a core hub for translational research and medicine, covering a great breadth of subject areas.
THE ROLE
The Technical Officer/Laboratory Assistant will join a team of researchers, clinicians and bioinformaticians investigating the genetic basis of disease in humans and animal models. The successful applicant will provide a variety of professional and high-quality technical services and assistance to customers under the supervision of the manager of the Genomics Facility at the Central Clinical School of Monash University.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- The appointee will have:
- a tertiary qualification in a relevant field; or
- substantial relevant skills and work experience; or
- an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge and high-level proficiency in the understanding and application of molecular biology, PCR, RNA and DNA handling, library construction chemistries and sequencing technologies.
- Ability to perform complex technical laboratory tasks in a meticulous manner and analyse data objectively.
- Sound analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- High-level communication skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse range of colleagues, clients, suppliers and contractors.
- Proven organisational and time management skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage time and plan multiple work activities to meet strict/tight deadlines and standards in a fast paced and demanding environment.
- High level computer skills particularly in Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team, exercising judgement and initiative.
- Experience with research or laboratory technology including equipment and software or a demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to and learn new systems
