The Department

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne. All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to develop the Partnership and ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services.

The Role

Great opportunity for an existing or aspiring Medical Secretary to join our Anatomical Pathology team. The successful applicant will be responsible for reception duties, secretarial support to the Director and senior staff along with various clerical and administrative tasks associated with Unit operations.  Daily activities include handling telephone enquiries, managing emails, receiving visitors, organising case meetings, printing and faxing reports, data entry, document scanning and filing, processing slide returns, supporting send-out testing requests and general customer service functions. This role handles time sensitive and confidential medical information.

Qualification/Experience Required 

  • High proficiency in written and spoken English with understanding of medical terminology. A  friendly and professional telephone manner is essential
  • Keyboard skills, computer proficiency and data entry experience
  • Ability to self-organise daily work, time manage, multitask and be comfortable working in a pathology/medical environment   
  • Previous secretarial/receptionist/clerical experience in a laboratory, hospital or medical environment is preferred
