The Department

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

The single most important goal of AMAH is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

The Role

The Senior Consumer Peer worker role has 2 components.

  1. Responsibility for the guidance of consumer peer workers and integrating strong processes that support consumer perspective recovery by outlining their specific functions, importance and benefits across the multidiscipline teams. Within this component the Senior Consumer Peer Worker’s position will assist in the recruitment process of Consumer Peer Workers, orientation, and the development of resources to support their practice in the community setting.
  2. Provide one on one consumer peer work within a client team for 50% of their time, providing input to case managers relating to areas of consumer experience based on your own lived experience.

The Consumer Senior Peer Worker will be required to be self-motivated and directed. They will demonstrate a sound ability to engage with a range of people, and offer support and information to the peer worker team who are drawing on their own experience in supporting the consumers they work with.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • Formal qualifications are not mandatory for this role but may be helpful:
  • Certificate IV in Peer Work
  • Cert IV in Mental Health AOD
  • Intentional Peer Support training.
  • Peer Supervision Training
  • Appropriate work visa
  • Current Victorian Driver's License
  • Be willing to undergo a Background Check
