The Department

An exciting opportunity presents for suitably qualified Occupational Therapists to join the large and supportive team at Alfred Health. The successful candidate will work with the Occupational Therapy and broader multidisciplinary team within Alfred Health’s Better@Home program.

Better@Home is a contemporary and growing inpatient bed substitution model based at Caulfield Hospital where patients are provided inpatient-level multi-disciplinary rehabilitation in their home environment.

The program provides rehabilitation to a wide breadth of diagnoses within the Alfred Health catchment which covers anywhere from neurological disorders, spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, dementia, trauma, falls, and chronic illness.

The current bed capacity features 60 ‘beds’ and is serviced by a cohesive and high performing Better@Home Occupational Therapy team which is comprised of several Occupational Therapists who share a wide breadth of knowledge and clinical specialty.

The Role

The Grade 2 Occupational Therapist will form part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team. Each day starts with a Journeyboard meeting to discuss patient’s ongoing needs and rehabilitation goals with the wider team. You will formulate plans with the multidisciplinary team before attending the homes of your patients to complete holistic assessments and evidenced based interventions to provide inpatient level care and rehabilitation.

The ability to work effectively within a team to conduct joint sessions with other disciplines will form part of your usual practice. You will be given regular opportunities to complete sessions with senior clinicians to support your ongoing clinical skill development and expand on a wide breadth of clinical knowledge.

You will have opportunities to continue progressing your supervision skills with junior clinicians and the education of Occupational Therapy students, in conjunction with participating in departmental portfolios and quality improvement initiatives in both Better@Home and the wider OT department.
