The Department

Monash School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine is a teaching and research unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and is centred at the Alfred Hospital Campus. It plays a prominent role in public health medicine in Australia. The position is within the Clinical Outcomes data Reporting and Research Program (CORRP) and is based at 553 St Kilda Road.

The Role

The Australasian Pelvic Floor Procedure Registry (APFPR) is a clinical quality registry that monitors variation in quality of care and outcomes of pelvic floor procedures (to treat stress incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse in women) through the collection of longitudinal clinical and patient outcome data. The APFPR is a Department of Health and Aged Care Government initiative, set up as one of several responses to the 2018 Senate enquiry into the use of transvaginal mesh implants in pelvic floor surgery.

The APFPR Data Manager will provide leadership of the APFPR database and take responsibility for the development and ongoing evolution of APFPR data resources. This includes ensuring that data entered into the registry is done in accordance with the project protocol and implementing a system for regular quality assurance of entered data. The role will develop and regularly update a data dictionary for the APFPR and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data management, including methods for data extraction from and data linkage with external databases where possible, in conjunction with Monash eSolutions technical support. The data manager will develop and run regular operational reports on the data to inform the registry management team and will undertake periodic extraction and cleaning of the datasets, ready for reporting and secondary analysis for research. The APFPR Data Manager will enhance the current project REDCap database and will lead the development of specifications for a new customised database for the APFPR, as well as act as project manager in its implementation. The Data Manager will liaise regularly with the Therapeutic Goods Administration regarding implementation of the Unique Device Identifier for pelvic mesh devices and will lead database training resource development and database training of end users. 

Education/Qualifications

The appointee will have:

  • a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (quantitative or information technology discipline (eg. Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology) or
  • minimum 5 years of relevant skills and experience in data management and clinical quality registries; or
  • an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
