Fellow Acute General Surgical Unit

  • February 2023 commencement

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

The Acute General Surgical Unit is a newly created unit providing services across both Alfred and Sandringham, incorporating acute General Surgery at The Alfred and encompasses all the general surgical work currently performed at the Sandringham Hospital.  Those patients who have complex conditions and who require a high level of care will be directed to the Alfred campus, whilst the Sandringham site is targeted for high volume, low complexity, short stay general surgery elective and emergency cases. All emergency general surgical patients will be admitted to the Alfred and Sandringham hospital under the Acute General Surgical Unit rather than one of the existing general surgical units.

Applications are invited for the position of Fellow to join the Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU) at Alfred Health to start from February 2023. The Fellow will work across the unit, focussing particularly on the peri-operative and operative aspects of Acute General surgery including a weekly outpatient clinic, MDT and  6-7 elective operating lists per week. The fellow will also participate in the on-call roster for emergency surgery, facilitate completing of in-hours non-elective cases and also assess referrals.

Applicants should hold, or expect to hold at the commencement of the fellowship, a FRACS or equivalent.  Must be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and eligible to work in Australia.
