The Team

The South East Metro Health Service Partnership (SEMHSP) plays a key role in the recovery and reform program for the public hospital system in South Eastern Melbourne. The partnership has a significant portfolio of work commissioned by the Department of Health (DH) and the three Public Health Services of the South East Metro HSP – Alfred Health, Monash Health and Peninsula Health.

Alfred Health is the lead health service partner for the SEMHSP Elective Surgery Reform Program. The SEMHSP Project Officer for the Elective Surgery Reform Program will be an employee of Alfred Health however existing employees of SEMHSP partners may have the opportunity for formal employment to continue through their current health service.

The Elective Surgery Reform Program

Improving elective surgery access as we recover from the pandemic is a key priority for Alfred Health, Monash Health and Peninsula Health and as such is a major program for the SEMHSP. The Victorian Government has committed significant funding to the SEMHSP Elective Surgery Reform Program for 2022-23 and 2023-24 targeting reducing wait times, expanded capacity and maximised throughput.

The SEMHSP and partnership health services have developed a program to effect improved access, care and outcomes for patients seeking elective surgery care in South East Melbourne focusing on integrated and comprehensive surgical pathways, service efficiencies and expansion, evidence-based model of care developments including leveraging non-surgical options and home-based services. The partnership has a broad workplan across five different workstreams with an interesting, varied and impactful workplan for the HSP team.  

The opportunity

The SEMHSP Elective Surgery Reform Project Manager will work with closely the Project Director and HSP team to support the delivery of the SEMHSP Elective Surgery Reform program and key strategic initiatives. The Project Manager will work with surgical leaders drive a portfolio of work within the Elective Surgery Reform Program as defined by the needs of the program, the responsibilities and deliverables facing the project team and the skills, interests and professional goals of the successful applicant.

Qualifications/experience required

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant health and/or business discipline
  • An understanding of public health objectives and health service delivery
  • Capacity to consult and work with stakeholders including patients, staff and the community to ensure stakeholder engagement and commitment to service
  • Skills and/or exposure to process management, change management and/or quality management methodologies
  • Ability to source and utilise a range of health data including literature review and the use of evidence to inform service and project planning
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint proficient

Highly valued

  • Quantitative analysis skills with capacity and/or interest in modelling, service planning and evaluation
  • Experience or interest in feasibility assessment and business case development.
