The Department

Alfred Health's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation Centre provides rehabilitation services for people with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries and other causes of non-progressive brain injury. The service is comprised of an inpatient rehabilitation service, a community rehabilitation service and a 4-bed transitional living service (TLS). The TLS is a purpose built facility to provide suitable people, aged over 18 years with an Acquired Brain Injury, continuation of rehabilitation in a homelike environment. The rehabilitation program will be a more extensive transition period with a focus on development of domestic and community living skills to facilitate return to community living.

 

The Role

The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) will be located primarily in the TLS and is one of several AHA positions within the service. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and skilled allied health assistant to provide high quality assessment and management of patients within the ABI TLS. The overall objective of the position is to provide therapy support services to individuals and groups as directed by the Allied Health Professional/s with which they work. The AHA works as part of the interdisciplinary team to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each client’s identified therapeutic goals. This role may also be required to support leave on the ABI in-patient rehabilitation unit or in the ABI community rehabilitation service.

 

Skills

You will have:

  • Experience in providing therapy support services to individuals and groups as directed by an Allied Health Professional/s in a rehabilitation or community-based setting with clients who have an ABI
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to enable effective liaison within an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to take direction from supervising staff and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team to provide high quality rehabilitation within a client-centred, goal directed framework
  • Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in approach to service delivery
  • Positive approach to teamwork and willingness to undertake a broad range of clinical and non- clinical duties
  • Ability to supervise or co-supervise AHA students if and when applicable

 

Qualifications/Experience Required

Essential

  • Certificate IV or higher qualification as an Allied Health Assistant or other relevant health-related qualification
  • Victorian Drivers licence

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Previous experience working with clients who have an acquired brain injury
  • Advanced computer skills
