Grade 3 Clinical Specialist Hand Therapist

Fixed term until 11/6/23.

Part Time (up to 60.8 hours per fortnight) 0.8 EFT

 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Grade 3 clinician to work part time within the Hand Therapy clinical stream at the Alfred Hospital.  Job share and flexible hours will be considered.

 

The Department

Alfred Health is the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is also a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria. The health service operates three outstanding facilities, The Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham. At The Alfred Hospital, clinical service provision is focused on inpatient care, as well as outpatient services across a spectrum of specialties including aged care, plastic and orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, spinal, amputee and burns.

The Role

The Senior Clinician Occupational Therapist / Hand Therapist (Grade 3) is identified as a clinical specialist within a discrete area of practice (hand therapy - plastics / orthopaedics) and applies this knowledge, skill and expertise to lead and develop the clinical practice of individuals and/or teams. The successful applicant will support the Hand Therapy/Plastics/Burns stream at Alfred Health.

High level communication skills, prior job-share experience, and previous experience using telehealth to deliver clinical care are preferred.

The Senior Clinician actively collaborates with the Allied Health Manager and Deputy Manager, Grade 4 clinicians and Occupational Therapy staff, and represents Allied Health and/or their discipline at various internal/external forums (as directed by the Allied Health Manager)
 

Qualifications Required 

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent.
  • Post graduate qualification (Masters level) in one of Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Research and/or Health Management or working towards same.
  • Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligible for membership).
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted).
  • Current Working with Children’s Check
     

Essential Experience Required 

  • Minimum seven years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy or equivalent (including a minimum of four years in clinical specialty area)
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership in area of clinical specialty.
  • Well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to undertake professional supervision and promote professional competence of other hand therapy staff.
  • A clear understanding of Hand Therapy Service strategic priorities specific to a large, public health care provider.
  • Demonstrated skills in the evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice (experience with using telehealth to deliver clinical care is preferred) and modification of service delivery.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills to promote teamwork, and a proven ability to relate effectively to people at all levels of the organisation (prior job-share experience preferred)
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Sound understanding of change management methodology.
  • Sound skills in organisation, planning and priority setting.
