The Department
The Department of Neuroscience, in strong partnership with the Alfred Health the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Psychiatry, has 23 different research groups and over 200 staff and students. We do basic/fundamental and clinical neuroscience research and research training relevant to a broad range of neurological and related disciplines.
The Role
To assist with clinical studies led by Investigators within the Monash Trauma Group. These studies will focus on identifying biomarkers and assessing treatments in patients with mild brain injuries due to a range of causes (e.g., sports, domestic violence, motor vehicle accidents). Depending on the successful applicant’s skillset/training, the role may involve the recruitment of participants, testing participants using cognitive and neuropsychological protocols, collecting blood samples from participants, maintenance of research databases, assisting with ethics and other administrative duties, and communicating with other team members. The Monash Trauma group consists of a team of clinicians and scientists, and the successful applicant can expect to work in a vibrant team setting.
Skills
Essential
- Prior research experience and related degree (e.g., Honours, Masters, PhD)
- Ability to work and effectively communicate in a team setting
- Experience preparing and editing documents with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Willingness to undergo venepuncture training
Desirable
- Nursing education and experience
- Neuropsychological testing experience
- Venepuncture training and experience
- Experience recruiting and testing participants
- Data entry and database maintenance
- Experience with human ethics
- Basic wet laboratory experience (e.g., use of pipettes and centrifuge)
- Victorian driver license
