The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies for prostate cancer patients. The Prostate Cancer Nurse Specialist will work in partnership across all of these services and other health organisations to contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer.

 

The Role 

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced registered nurse to work closely with the Prostate Foundation of Australia and The Alfred Hospital to be an expert point of contact for prostate cancer patients and their families in providing both psychosocial and clinical support. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse provides evidence-based education, support and care coordination across the entire care continuum and is required to develop and implement a coordinated, seamless, patient focused approach in the provision of prostate cancer nursing care.

 

Qualifications/Experience 

  • Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Recent extensive cancer care or urological nursing experience
  • Post graduate qualification in cancer nursing, prostate cancer or urology nursing or willingness to undertake such
  • Highly competent clinician, with ability to show initiative and enthusiasm and work autonomously
  • Experience in the development and delivery of education programs to patients, carers, community and health professionals
  • Patient teaching experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with the multidisciplinary management of patients
  • Possess sound analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Able to drive culture, encompassing a person-centred focus, adaptability, respecting diversity, innovative thinking, application of evidence into practice and self-management
