  • Casual Social worker - Alfred Emergency Department/ Sandringham Hospital 
  • Social Worker Grade 2 Classification

The Department:

The Patient and Family Services Social work Department operates in accordance with the philosophy and goals of The Alfred. A focus on the quality of life and participation in care is a primary goal of the Department.

The Role:

The Social Worker is responsible for the provision of social work services to patients and their families/significant others within the Social work department.  Flexibility to work within any of the units covered by the Social work service is essential, as is regular participation in the Department’s Priority System.  Advanced knowledge of Acute and/or Sub Acute Hospital systems is essential for this role.  A demonstrated knowledge of hospital discharge planning and Social work provision will be required as well as demonstrated expert knowledge in Social Work theory and practice skills.  Advanced Information technology skills and an advanced understanding of working within an Electronic medical record is also  crucial.  The worker will be required to consult with staff, both Social Workers and those from other disciplines, on issues relevant to patient care and provide advanced casework expertise. This role will work across the Social work department.  There is the opportunity for flexible working arrangements to be considered.  This role is casual and we are currently looking for staff available to work weekends in particular at either The Alfred Emergency Department, Caulfield Hospital or Sandringham Hospital. 


  •        Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent.
  •        Experience: Experience in an acute or sub-acute hospital setting is preferable.
  •        Personal: Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and with families, exhibiting initiative and facilitative qualities.
  •        Location: This position may be required to work at any or all campuses of the Alfred Health as and when required.
