About the Team

Alfred Health provides a comprehensive range of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Support Services. The Alfred has five Cath Labs which provide care for patients requiring complex Angiography, Structural Heart Procedures, Pacemaker/Defibrillator insertion, Electrophysiology/ Ablation, Cardiac Biopsy and Right Heart Catheterisation. The Structural Heart Program is a large and expanding service which includes Percutaneous Aortic, Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Implantations, Paravalvular leak repairs, ASD and VSD repairs as well as Balloon Valvuloplasty.

The Cath Lab Day Procedure Unit and Cardiac Procedure Unit (CPU) provides pre and post-operative care for elective cardiac patients attending the Cardiac Cath Lab. Together this area services 33 points of care over the two areas: 11 points of care (DPU); and 22 points of care (CPU); including 8 overnight/multistay stay beds. 

About the Role

  • Admission and discharge duties for elective and overnight stay patients presenting to Cath Lab DPU 
  • Responsible for the coordination of communication, patient services and clerical functions as directed by the Nurse Manager of designated ward or department
  • Word Processing (as applicable)
  • Facilitate communication within the ward
  • Arrange and coordinate patient services
  • Clerical Duties
  • Promote and maintain good customer relations with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel.
  • If necessary to be away from desk area, ensure the registered nurse in charge of the ward is notified
  • Be aware of role during emergency procedures
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Key role in ensuring communication reaches patient’s
