The Department
In the Alfred Care Group, Allied Health is renowned for its outstanding patient care, achieved through clinical excellence, professional opportunities, innovation and care for our staff. We are Art Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Dietetics, Disability Liaison Officers, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Psychology, Social Work, Speech Pathology & Language Services, and Spiritual Care, as well as Allied Health Assistants. The Role
The Speech Pathology Deputy Manager & Language Service Lead provides operational support to the Speech Pathology Manager. Under the direction of the Speech Pathology & Language Services Manager, they will provide support across:
- Leadership, management and professional practice of the Speech Pathology and Language Services service to ensure the provision of high-quality services across these two teams in accordance with Alfred Health strategic and operational plans and Speech Pathology professional practice standards.
- Specific allocated Speech Pathology operational responsibilities and /or Speech Pathology leadership portfolios.
- Allied Health clinical program leadership portfolio
- Responsibilities for ensuring expert clinical intervention is provided and that clinical care is provided in accordance with best practice professional standards and other relevant external standards
- Advising on the strategic direction of the Speech Pathology and Language services and the contribution to the allied health service within the clinical programs in consultation with Speech Pathology Manager
- Working collaboratively with operational managers to support achievement of broader allied health goals.
- Performing other duties as required and delegated by the Discipline Manager, Chief Allied Health Officer/Director of Allied Health or Deputy Director of Allied Health.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
- Post-graduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/ business management at Masters level or higher.
- Experience in the delivery and/or management of a Speech Pathology service in a hospital environment
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues and directions of allied health services
- Demonstrated understanding of organisational change concepts and practices, with the ability to lead and manage a team through change
- Demonstrated high level communication, negotiation, problem solving, conflict management and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop sound working relationships and work effectively within a team
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing staff professional development, service review and quality improvement and research initiatives
- Extensive experience in the supervision and mentoring of Speech Pathologists, students and support staff.
- High level planning and organisational skills
- An ability to monitor performance, lead and motivate staff and to ensure department standards are upheld
- Motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to excellence
- Demonstrated capacity to motivate staff and to contribute to a positive organisational culture
- Demonstrated financial management skills
- Working knowledge, experience and competency with information management systems.
