On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Specialist in Respiratory Medicine at Alfred Health to work in the Lung Transplant team with flexible ongoing and/or fixed term opportunities. The position will commence in February 2026.

The Respiratory Unit is offering a combined total of 0.7 EFT, consisting of:

  • 0.4 EFT ongoing
  • 0.3 EFT fixed term leave cover until 3 August 2026

Qualifications and Skills Required

Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes:

  • Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice
  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
  • Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Respiratory Medicine
  • Advanced knowledge of Lung Transplantation management including: assessment of potential recipients and donors, recipient and donor matching and perioperative care.
  • Meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Respiratory Medicine
  • Demonstrated leadership in the delivery of clinical services
  • Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
