The Department  

The Endocrinology and Diabetes department at Alfred Health provides specialised treatment, care, education and ongoing support for people with endocrine conditions, which includes Diabetes. The department provides both an inpatient and outpatient service with bespoke education and support accessing technology for glucose monitoring and blood glucose management. The department is also actively involved in research.

Position Summary  

The Diabetes and Endocrine Unit at The Alfred is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant (DCNC) to join our team. This Fixed term position plays a vital role in delivering specialist care, supporting patient self-management, and driving best-practice outcomes.

The Alfred Specialty Medicine Program, within the Operations Division, encompasses six clinical units: Clinical Genetics and Genomics, Dermatology, Endocrine and Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Renal, and Rheumatology. Our program provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services, including multiday care (Ward 4WA), same-day dialysis (Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham campuses), and specialized ambulatory services.

As a Diabetes CNC, you will:

  • Provide expert clinical leadership, acting as a key resource for diabetes management across the hospital.
  • Collaborate with community health services to ensure seamless care transitions.
  • Support patients in achieving their health goals through education, advocacy, and access to the latest diabetes technology.
  • Lead and participate in National Diabetes Audits, using statistical analysis to drive service improvements and enhance patient outcomes.

Experience and Qualifications Required  

  • Currently Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

  • Postgraduate qualification in Diabetes Education and Management with ADEA Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE) status or working towards
