The Department

The Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Service operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals. The Physiotherapy Service includes approximately 133 EFT (operational reports) with an additional 45 EFT (professional reports) who provide interventions to inpatients and outpatients across all Alfred Care Group clinical programs.

The Physiotherapy Service is aligned to the Alfred Care Group strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Physiotherapy Service is committed to the teaching and ongoing professional education of staff and students, research and quality improvement activities. All physiotherapy staff must always meet the profession’s competency-based minimum standards of practice. All physiotherapy staff must be registered with AHPRA. The Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Service provides the workforce to each clinical program and therefore supports each clinical program meeting performance targets including patient experience, access, elective surgery and waitlist management measures.

Position Summary

The Physiotherapy Manager is the physiotherapy professional lead across the health service in ensuring that the physiotherapy workforce is fit for purpose and that the right person is completing the right task, at the right time. They will be responsible for:

  • Implementation of the Allied Health Professional and Leadership Accountability Matrix relating to physiotherapy
  • The overall leadership, management and professional practice of the Physiotherapy Service to ensure the provision of high-quality physiotherapy in accordance with Alfred Care Group strategic and operational plans and physiotherapy professional practice standards. Page 4 of 8
  • Operational responsibility for physiotherapy services (excluding Community & Ambulatory and Psychiatry programs).
  • Allied health clinical program leadership portfolio.
  • Ensuring that expert clinical intervention is provided and that clinical care is provided in accordance with best practice professional standards and other relevant external standards
  • Advising on the strategic direction of the Physiotherapy and Allied Health Service and an active contribution to the allied health service within the clinical programs.
  • Professional accountability for all physiotherapy clinicians across allied health including those who do not operationally report to the Allied Health Service i.e. Community and Ambulatory and Psychiatry programs.
  • Working collaboratively with allied health managers to support achievement of broader allied health goals.
  • Performing other duties as required and delegated by the Director of Allied Health or Deputy Director/s of Allied Health.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Physiotherapy Association
  • Registration for practice as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Post-graduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/ business management at Masters level or higher.
  • Experience in the delivery and/or management of a Physiotherapy Service in a major public health service, hospital environment, and recognised as a leader within the physiotherapy profession
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues and directions of allied health services
  • Extensive past experience in the supervision and mentoring of physiotherapy students and support staff
  • Demonstrated health system wide knowledge and ability to respond to the changing needs of the Physiotherapy Service
  • Demonstrated experience as an Allied Health Leader in a Health Service or hospital environment
