Alfred Health is the main provider of health services to people in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is also a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria.  The Health Service operates three outstanding facilities: The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham.

Applications are invited for the position of Visiting Medical Officer in Medicine.  We are seeking VMOs to contribute to the COVID Community Pathway (CCP) where flexible, virtual and on campus clinical roles are available for senior medical staff from a variety of specialty backgrounds.  Fixed term, fractional appointments from 0.2FTE are available until 30 June 2022.  Applicants for full time appointment until 30 June 2022 are also sought.

The service growth for Alfred Health in 2022 and beyond is in developing the community pathways to step up and step down acute care in the community in partnership with patients and primary care providers.  We aspire to de-institutionalise acute care for chronic disease.  The learnings from the CCP experience will be invaluable in this regard and VMOs who are successful with their application will gain valuable experience in a model of care that will be relevant across many specialties and health services.

The medical leadership of the CCP lies within Alfred Health Department of General Medicine.  Depending on clinical experience, applicants may also have the opportunity to participate in other General Medicine clinical services; including traditional ward based acute medicine and consultative medicine (peri-operative service).

Applicants must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered with the Medical Practitioners’ Board of Victoria, and hold Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Physicians. Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Specialty Medicine practice is required as well as meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Specialty Medicine.
