The Department

Alfred ICU is a university attached quaternary referral centre, providing State Service for heart and lung transplantation (including paediatric lung transplantation), artificial heart technology, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), burns and hyperbaric medicine. It also provides Victoria’s Adult Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension Services. Internationally renowned, The Alfred ICU provides specialist career pathways and endless career opportunities. The Intensive Care Unit is a state-of-the-art facility with 68 beds, admitting more than 3,500 patients a year.

The Role

The team at The Alfred Hospital is looking for someone with excellent customer service and patient focus to join their team. You will join our dynamic and passionate team in the position of Ward Clerk located our state of the art Intensive Care Unit.

You will be responsible for the coordination of communication, patient services and clerical functions as directed by the Nurse Manager. Your goal is to promote and maintain good customer relations with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff.

About You

Customer relations and excellent communication skills are essential to this role. You will ensure all patients, visitors and work colleagues and a variety of health professionals are provided with guidance and accurate information pertaining to the ward environment.

Experience with managing telephones and reception is essential. Excellent clerical and computer skills and the ability to multitask are core skills required. Completion of a medical terminology course or experience working with medical terminology would be favourable.

  • Current and satisfactory Police Check
  • Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check
  • Good communication skills

Desirable

  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Good telephone skills
  • Ability to problem solve
