Central Clinical School (CCS) encompasses the Departments of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, Clinical Haematology, Immunology and Pathology, Diabetes, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Allergy and Respiratory Medicine, Neuroscience, Medicine and Surgery. CCS also includes the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre and the National Trauma Research Institute. It is located at the Alfred Hospital precinct in Melbourne, known as AMREP (Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct). The school is involved in teaching students from both the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science and its teaching and research is conducted at Alfred Health, Cabrini, Epworth Richmond, Peninsula Health and at Clayton.

The Role

The Research Officer will provide a variety of high-quality research services to support the operations of the Immunology and Regenerative Medicine Research Group. The Research Officer will perform a range of research activities to support the delivery of the Immunology and Regenerative Medicine research groups research goals. This includes undertaking animal-based experiments, human trial coordination, using specialized immunology equipment, developing operating procedures, data analysis, research administration, computing, planning and scheduling, while ensuring a compliant and safe research environment.

The Research Officer operates with a focus on excellence in process and judgment and provision of sound and timely advice and support to researchers, participants and other stakeholders. The successful applicant will be a highly organised individual, with attention to detail and a high level of communication skills.

Education/Qualifications

The appointee will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with honours in a relevant field of biomedical science, biology or medicine
  • Substantial relevant skills and work experience

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Sound analytical, technical and data analysis skills and a demonstrated capacity to apply effective technical methods, processes and systems
  2. Strong organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage time and plan work to meet deadlines
  3. Demonstrated project administration skills with the ability to support research projects accordance with agreed standards and timeframes
  4. Ability to work as an effective member of a team as well as independently under general supervision
  5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy and an understanding of confidentiality, privacy and information handling principles
  6. Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to draft a range of documentation
  7. A high level of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience in learning and adopting new software packages as required
  8. Experience in immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR and microscopy
  9. Experience with animal models of disease
