DEPARTMENT

The Outpatients COVID response consists of the Entry Point Screening (EPS) and COVID-19 Screening Clinic team. It is a dynamic, fast paced team responding to increases in demand and requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Outpatients COVID Response team is responsible for implementing criteria set by the DHHS and Alfred Health in both the EPS and Screening Clinic service, supported by the leadership team.

The Alfred COVID – 19 Screening Clinic is one of many screening clinics established by the Victorian State Government in response to the COVID – 19 pandemic. It is located at The Alfred hospital, next to the Emergency Department, and is open seven days a week. In times of peak capacity, additional screening clinic locations may be opened to assist with Alfred Health staff. Free screening is provided to individuals meeting the Victorian DHHS criteria. No appointment or referral is necessary for screening. The clinic is supported by a wide net of specialists within the organisation including Operations, Infection Prevention, and Infectious Diseases.

 

POSITION:

Reporting operationally to the Nurse Unit Manager or delegate in charge, the role of the COVID-19 Specimen Collector / Health Care Worker is to provide safe and quality patient centred care within the COVID-19 Screening Clinic with a primary focus on COVID-19 Specimen Collection. The COVID-19 Specimen Collector / Health Care Worker is required to work under the direction and supervision of an health professional at all times, within their level of education and assessed competencies and also under clearly defined role parameters. The main objectives of this role are:

  • To assist in providing a safe patient environment and additional supervision ensuring patient safety is maintained
  • The COVID-19 Specimen Collector / Health Care Worker will play an active role in the testing and collection of COVID-19 Specimens; ensuring positive patient identification, while maintaining high standards of infection prevention practices, complying with Alfred Health polices and guidelines.  

Candidates must be available for a 7:45am start.  Priority will be given to people who can work full to part time hours on a rotating roster, Monday-Sunday. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Relevant qualifications to be eligible to conduct COVID-19 swabbing including where relevant:
    • Tertiary qualification (or study equivalent) in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Exercise Physiology, Audiology, Dietetics, Registered Paramedics, Dentists, Osteopath OR Aboriginal health workers/practitioners, Chinese medicine practitioner,  Dental/Oral health Therapists, Emergency services workers (certificate trained), Patient transport officer (certificate trained) OR have completed their first year of studying tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Speech Pathology or Paramedics.
    • Current AHPRA registration applicable to the Allied Health Professional discipline, or eligible for membership of relevant professional body
  • Current Working with Children’s Check
  • Obtain an Immunisation Health Clearance prior to employment
  • Well-developed organisational and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates abilities to work collaboratively with effective interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting – desirable but not essential
