ARA Flow is a Core facility providing flow cytometry services to scientists from Monash University, the Burnet and Baker Institutes, the Alfred Hospital, as well as commercial entities. Flow cytometry is an incredibly powerful tool in biomedical research for analysing the characteristics of cells, organisms and particles on an individual basis. The facility manages 3 high-speed sorters for cell isolation and 7 analysers, including a state-of-the-art spectral analyser and an ImageStream analyser, providing a nationally leading capacity. Importantly, the facility’s staff operate the sorters and provide training and assistance for the analysers, along with expert assistance in experimental design and data analysis. As the facility works directly with Monash University, the Burnet and Baker Institutes and the Alfred Hospital in addition to external and commercial clients, the successful applicant will require an appreciation of the range of perspectives of the client base, spanning basic science to clinical trials to commercial applications. The manager will also be expected to have and engender an understanding of innovative research into cell characterisation using innovative approaches in flow cytometry and related technologies.
Monash Central Clinical School is seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual to serve as Manager of a reconfigured ARA FlowCore facility. The Facility Manager is responsible for providing effective leadership to two staff members and management of the Facility, establishing an innovative and responsive service for researchers and students. The manager will utilise senior-level, specialist knowledge to oversee and deliver high-quality research services to support the operations of ARA FlowCore. The manager will organize and supervise work routines, rosters, operational and maintenance protocols relevant to the efficient operation of the facility. The manager will also perform and oversee a range of significant and complex activities that play a critical role in supporting the delivery of Flow Cytometric services, including providing high-level technical input into the ongoing development of the ARA FlowCore facility, developing and overseeing quality control and maintenance procedures of facility equipment, developing and implementing training programs for new users in the use of analysis instruments, managing IT tasks and acting as a technical support specialist for data analysis. The manager is responsible for preparing an annual budget, allocating resources, managing the billing and booking applications and ensuring a work environment that is compliant with all State and University health and safety policies. The manager will also review facility infrastructure needs, developing business plans addressing equipment and staffing levels and assisting with funding applications.
The appointee will have:
- postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- extensive experience and management expertise, or
- an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
