The Department

The Department of Infectious Diseases at the Alfred Hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive infectious diseases clinical services in the country.  The Department offers expertise in general infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, travel-related infections, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted infections, and infections in immunocompromised hosts including critical care, burns, cystic fibrosis and solid organ (lung, heart and kidney) and stem cell transplant recipients.  One of the premier services provided by the Department is the Victorian State-wide HIV Service which provides a comprehensive program for individuals and populations affected by or infected with HIV in Victoria. 
The Role

The Ambulatory Service Manager will manage the Department of Infectious Diseases Ambulatory Service.  They will provide leadership for the service and oversee the day to day operations of the clinic, including management of the nursing and administrative staff.  The role will work collaboratively with key Infectious Diseases staff and VMOs to advance the existing services provided and work with clinical staff to develop new clinics/services within the Ambulatory Service.  The role will oversee development and implementation of policies and procedures and lead quality initiatives to support excellence in clinical practice and patient care.  The role will ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care is supported within the service.

The role will provide nursing leadership and provide a high level of service development and planning.  They will be involved in planning the development of new service responses and clinics.  They will manage the HIV model of care CNC who will lead the HIV model of care response in the Ambulatory Service.  This role will have a focus on developing the general Infectious Diseases model of care working closely with the Outpatient medical lead and Infectious Diseases Specialists. 

Qaulifications/experience Required

  • Registered Nurse
  • Current registration with the AHPRA
  • Post graduate qualification in HIV/Infectious Diseases or other relevant field is desirable but not essential
  • Experience managing a Clinical Service
  • At least 7 years clinical practice and strong professional identity
  • Experience in a senior Infectious Diseases clinical nursing role, chronic diseases management or similar
